IRON MOUNTAIN -- An Iron Mountain family is safe after an early morning fire on Wednesday caused heavy damage to their home.
According to the Iron Mountain Fire Department, they were called out at 1:58 a.m. CDT Wednesday to the home located at 900 1/2 East I Street.
When they arrived, flames could be see shooting up the outside of the home.
Two adults and a two-year-old child escaped.
It appears the blaze started outside, near some garbage cans, and the fire moved up the outside of the home to the attic.
What started the fire has not been determined at this time.
High winds also added to the battle for firefighters. Crews stayed on the scene until 4 a.m. CDT.
