MARQUETTE -- Though it might be difficult to imagine now, some Michigan legislators are discussing a pass system for the cross country ski season.
Representative Steve Lindberg recently introduced the Ski Pass bill which would set up a user fee for those using state forest cross country ski trails. The money raised by the sale of the passes would pay for general maintenance and grooming through the season.
People from the Noquemanon Trail Network, which currently grooms the Blueberry Ridge Trail, say they are supportive of any measure to keep trails maintained.
"It's very expensive, and the amount of money that we get from the DNR is under what our cost is to actually produce a good product there, so any extra funding that we can get to keep that trail system open is great," said Noquemanon Trail Network Board Member Jon Mommaerts.
The system would cost $20 for a yearlong pass, while day passes would be $5.
