LANSING -- An Upper Peninsula legislator has introduced a bill to keep cross country ski trails in good shape in the winter.
Representative Steve Lindberg introduced the "Ski Pass" bill, which is under consideration by the House committee on natural resources, tourism and outdoor recreation.
The bill would set up a user fee to ski on state forest cross country ski trails. If it passes, skiers would pay a season pass of $20 or get a daily pass at $5 a day.
The money would be used for maintenance, grooming, and improvement of state forest cross country ski trails.
Several local ski organizations are supportive of the measure and encourage cross country ski enthusiasts to contact their local representative to also show support.
