MARQUETTE -- When traveling on the road, safety is the number one concern, especially for motorcyclists.

Sunday in Marquette, riders participated in the final day of a four-day motorcycle training session.

The first few days were spent in the classroom learning and understanding the safety protocol.  They also learned about basic safety maneuvers.

"They're just not paying that much attention, cell phones, texting, things like that; a motorist doesn't stand a chance," says motorcycle safety teacher Tom Mallett.  "The more traffic you have out there and the more lanes, that motorcyclist has to watch that they don't get themselves boxed in where they have no place to go."

At Sunday's session, they practiced braking, quick stopping, swerving, and communicating with other traffic to let them know their intentions.

Motorcycle training sessions are held at the Harley-Davidson store in Marquette every weekend.
