MARQUETTE -- Movie makers have chosen the U.P. as the location for their upcoming movie "Meteor."
Rhys Mussman, owner of UpFront & Company, is the executive producer of the film. He, the director, J.J. Azan, and the associate producer will be visiting the area next week to explore exactly where they want to shoot the movie scenes...including car chases. They haven't made arrangements with the local authorities yet involving street closures because they haven't decided exactly where to film yet. They hope to make those arrangements next week during their visit.
"We're really looking forward to getting out there and working with local people and making our little movie there, and we're excited," said Azan.
A meet and greet will be held at the UpFront & Company next Thursday at 5 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. presentation. After that, they'll return to Marquette with 35 out-of-town crew members in August and begin filming for three to four weeks.
With a motion picture production coming into town soon, many locals are wondering what they have to do in order to play a part in the action. Anyone interested in joining the production team can submit their resume via email to Caralee Swanberg ( lscp@marquette.org) at the Lake Superior Community Partnership of Marquette.

They plan on using the NMU theatre department, and they welcome all locals to tryout.
"We don't have these opportunities in the area as much. We have student films, commercials, and that recent short film that was just filmed in Gwinn. But, we don't have an opportunity like this as often. And it's been nice to see some actors getting their faces on the big screen or on television," said Nikke Nason, Director of Marquette Arts Administration.
They don't know when it'll be released in theaters, but they're considering working with Warner Bros. or Paramount Pictures.
