MUNISING -- With Memorial Day weekend upon us, many people are hitting the road, but do rising gas prices affect where they travel?

Over 35 million Americans will be traveling on the roads this weekend, with gas prices up above four dollars a gallon in the U.P.

The roads in Munising were heavy with traffic Friday, most of those cars going to various destinations throughout the Upper Peninsula such as hotels, campgrounds and other landmarks.

Ron Hildebrand and his family are traveling to Joe's Lake from Mount Pleasant and says gas prices aren't affecting their holiday weekend plans.

"We've been coming to the U.P. for my entire life, 65 years, and we have a fuel efficient car, and gas prices really haven't changed our plans at all," said Hildebrand.

Travelers are reminded that police will be out in full force this weekend, issuing tickets to those not wearing safety belts for their Click it or Ticket campaign.
