Be careful about moving your firewood. That's what local Department of Natural Resources officials are advising since it can cause several problems for local ecosystems.
The DNR says that when you move your firewood from one location to another, you're transporting species of harmful beetles and other natural threats.
One of these is the Emerald Ash Borer, known for being destructive to local trees.
That's why the DNR is urging to burn your firewood where you cut it. Don't haul it, especially across the Mackinac Bridge.
"The bridge inspectors will be looking for firewood and there are serious fines you could be subject to if you're caught carrying firewood across the bridge," said Gwinn DNR Unit Manager, Jim Ferris.
They say that firewood is available for purchase at all state campgrounds.
