A Marquette County singer-songwriter is preparing for the release of his first album
MARQUETTE -- Scotty Alan is a singer-songwriter who lives off the grid in Harvey.
"That has a lot to do with my songwriting, is being kind of in my own little, quiet space," says Alan. "Definitely, Marquette is a unique place as far as the music scene goes; I just like taking the quiet aspect of it with me when I go out to the bigger city."
Alan's first album, 'Wreck and the Mess,' is scheduled to drop at the end of June. The 15 songs are all related to something that everybody goes through.
"It's kind of like a breakup album, so it's kind of all built off of that," he adds. "I've been writing for probably close to 25 years, and these just seemed like the right songs to put on this album."
He says the album is relatable. Some of the songs are new, while others are old favorites, but they're all original.
For the album, Alan got support from different musicians while he recently recorded it in California.
After writing songs for close to 25 years, Alan is hopeful that the album will lead to a tour, but he says he'd be satisfied with whatever came next.
"I just hope people actually can just appreciate it for what it is, just the time that went into it, the lyrical aspect of it, and the musical aspect of it."
Before their album release, Scotty Alan and the Old Kiln Road Society will be playing a few gigs in Marquette: Saturday at the Blue Lounge, and next Friday at the DeVos Art Museum at N.M.U.
