MARQUETTE -- Marquette residents may have noticed workers scaling the side of the Superior Dome to replace the roof.
Workers began replacing the roof on the dome the week after graduation and plan to complete the process in early August, weather permitting.
Residents might notice the color of the new roof is tan instead of the previous gray, which was decided by a committee.
The dome's roofing hasn't been replaced since its construction in 1991.
"The roofing is original to the building; it went on in 1991," said Associate Director of Engineering James Thams. "There are a number of issues and a number of leaks within the facility, and we're excited to be able to replace that roof and take care of a lot of the roof issues we do have with the building."
In addition to the roof, the project will remove one of three over hangings on the south side of the building to prevent snow buildup in the winter.
