LITTLE LAKE -- It takes a village to raise a child, and out in Sawyer, they've shown that they're helping one little boy get the care he needs.
Nine-year-old Jacob Stieler has Ewing Sarcoma and is receiving treatment at Grand Rapid's Devos Children's Hospital, but his community is pitching in. They've created the organization Hope for Jacob to raise money for his travel expenses.
The organization was in Jacob's fourth grade classroom, making a poster which will welcome him home from treatment.
"We're here to support their family, and we're here to let them know when things get though, everybody's here to back them up," said Hope for Jacob organizer, Britton Suardini. "They've got all their friends here that are making posters welcoming him home."
They're also hosting a benefit for Jacob this Saturday at the American Legion in Little Lake.
Festivities start at 4 p.m. Dinner is seven dollars and dancing is five dollars.
