Claims he only tried to help alleged victim

HOUGHTON -- The Painesdale man accused of criminal sexual conduct took the stand in his own defense Thursday morning.

During the testimony, 41-year-old Jerry Wisniewski repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and told the court he had only ever tried to help his alleged victim.  He admitted that he would text the girl late at night, but he said their encounters strictly involved conversations about various problems in her life.  When asked what he would say to the girl now, Wisniewski said he'd ask, "Why?"

“It’s the most hurtful thing that I’ve had to deal with in my life,” said Wisniewski.  “It’s just one big, big mess, and it’s not right.”

Closing statements are set to being at 1 p.m.
