The popular play and movie is coming to Iron Mountain
IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Desk Set takes place in the 1950s, but despite its age, there is still plenty of relatable material for the audience...like computers taking over the world!
But this romantic comedy is much more likely to provide the laughs than the drama.
"The only problem I've had is to have the actors stop laughing at their own lines because it is so much fun," said director Gail Galotta. "We have a great time and we know that we're going to provide a great time for everyone."
The community theater show is put on by volunteers that vary widely in experience, but not enthusiasm, like Jessica Muench, who hasn't acted since college and plays the lead, Bunny.
"It's so much fun to get together, and you know each other's characters so well you almost feel like you're actually the person that you're supposed to be pretending to be," said Muench.
Even theater veterans like Fred Jump can't get enough of the show.
"Even rehearsals are fun, and generally you don't hear that," said Jump. "But we've had a great time, all of us, and we hope we'll have a great time putting it on, and the audience will like it as much as we do."
After seven weeks and countless hours of rehearsal, Galotta is ready for that curtain to open for Friday night’s performance.
"You can just feel the excitement every time we walk into the theater because we know what a great show it is," she said. "We're excited to put this on for the community."
The Desk Set opens at the Braumart Theater on Friday and Saturday with additional performances May 20-22. Tickets can be purchased at the Dickinson County Chamber of Commerce.
