HUMBOLDT -- A Chevy Suburban, driven by 51-year-old James Raymond of Pelkie, struck a moose around 5:40 a.m. Thursday in Humboldt.

Michigan State Police received a call after the vehicle struck a full-sized female moose on US-41 near Wolf Lake Road.  Raymond and the two passengers in the vehicle reported no injuries, but the moose did not survive the collision.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources took custody of the moose for further examination.
