ALGER COUNTY -- In Alger County, voters will decide whether or not to renew a millage that would keep the Michigan State University Extension Office open.
The proposed millage is a renewal that would provide 25 cents per $1,000 of tax payer money.
The MSU extension provides Alger County with agricultural and nutrition services as well as youth programs, such as 4-H and bullying education.
The MSU extension is funded by county, state and federal legislation, and with the current economic climate in the state, losing Alger County funding would be a huge loss. The staff of five that work at the extension are hopeful the millage will pass as this is a renewal rather than a new millage.
"We understand very much that belts are tightening and people's personal budgets are getting tighter, but I still feel that people in the county are supportive of our activities."
Alger County polls are open until 8 p.m. You can view results here as they come in.
