MARQUETTE -- The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees met Friday, but not many decisions were made regarding next year's budget, except for an increase in room and board.
Students living on-campus next year will see an increase of 1.9 percent, a $148 increase.
As far as the university's budget is concerned, President Les Wong says the board is waiting for the approval of Governor Rick Snyder's budget. Any tuition increases or fee changes will be decided once the budget is finished.
Instead, most of Friday's meeting focused on the end of another academic year. Board members recognized positive achievements throughout the university community.
"A university is a very complex organism, and the board has been wonderful at their engagement with what goes on on campus and their concern about our future," said President Wong. "And I think they also look back and say, wow, you know we're really doing some good stuff and you know we need to get ready for next year."
Also at Friday morning's meeting, the board voted to renew President Wong's contract for another year. They also approved a new Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management.
