NEGAUNEE -- More pressure at the pump for U.P. residents as gas prices continue to climb. The national average may be $3.87, but over in Negaunee, prices shot up several cents to $4.09.
Prices have been on the rise for 35 straight days, but experts expect the national price average to fall as Americans drive less. Still, U.P. consumers aren't taking any chances.
"I had half a tank of gas left in my car, so I'm anticipating gas prices rising whenever, so I thought I'd top my car off and fill it up while the price remains the same," said John Vercoe of Negaunee.
"I think it's just ridiculous," added John Roberts of Negaunee. "I don't know; they go down a penny and go up a dime, you know."
The State of Michigan is not alone. Pump prices have shot above four dollars per gallon in California, New York, Illinois, Connecticut and Washington, D.C. as well.
The Associated Press reports that Tuesday's price jump is partially the result of three oil refineries losing power in Texas.
