HANCOCK -- Armed Forces Day isn't until the end of May, but preparations for the annual celebration are already underway.

On Tuesday, students at Barkell Elementary School signed their names to a life-size poster of the letter 'A'.  It might not look like much now, but the letter is one of eight that will be used to spell out the words 'Thank You'.

Once each letter has been signed, the message will be displayed in a style similar to the Hollywood sign.

"When the veterans see that, they're going to know that it's not just some massive sign honoring them," said organizer Dennis Korby.  "They're going to see all the signatures that represent the students at locals schools who are personally thanking them for their service."

The Copper Country is home to one of the country's largest Armed Forces Day parades.  This year, it's scheduled for May 21.
