NEGAUNEE -- Upper Michigan's job market held steady during March, with unemployment remaining at 11.8 percent.

This is slightly above the state average of 11 percent and much higher than the national rate of 9.2 percent.

Eight U.P. counties showed minor increases in the jobless rate--two had no change and five saw the rate drop.

The lowest unemployment rate in March was in Menominee at nine percent.  The highest rate in March was Mackinac County at just over 24 percent.
