MARQUETTE -- There has been a lot of activity at Marquette's Founders Landing, and with a recent announcement, there's going to be plenty more.

Architect Barry Polizin announced Thursday that an agreement with Gundlach-Champion has been reached, and construction on a Hampton Inn hotel will begin next month, being completed within the year.

Construction has begun on two new condominium buildings, and Polzin says they are ahead of schedule as far as selling units.

Commercial buildings are also in the works, putting together a new, busy part of town.

"When this is all said and done, there will be about 90 residents, the hotel, many business locations, so really a lot of stuff going on right here in the heart of the town," said Polzin.

In addition to the commercial end of the area, the city is scheduled to complete construction of a 20-foot wide boardwalk in front of the hotel by mid-summer.
