Good news for the health care needs of the people in Schoolcraft County.
In a press release from Senator Debbie Stabenow's office, funding for the new home of the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital has been secured. The money is through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Agency. It comes in the form of a $19 million loan.
According to George Montgomery, CEO of Schoolcraft Memorial, they have been working on getting a new facility for more than five years.
The new site is located on US-2 in Thompson Township, just west of the current facility in Manistique.
They are now working to get the final paperwork done and could break ground by August.
