CALUMET -- Learning, living and loving the Keweenaw has been the theme at CLK Elementary School during Earth Month.
Wednesday, each grade continued celebrating with a variety of hands-on activities.
Fifth graders used pieces of yarn to illustrate the various waterways surrounding Lake Superior while second graders made bracelets with different colored beads representing land and water.
Students in the third grade played games about the watercycle and decorated reusable napkins.
"If you spill oil on the ground, it can go down into Lake Superior. We did an experiment in the class with cereal and chocolate and Kool-aid, and then we poured milk on it and tested it and it tasted really bad," said third grader, Kyle Rowe.
The third graders also made recycled notebooks with cardboard from old cereal boxes. They plan to use them on an upcoming field trip to Brockway Mountain.
