HOUGHTON -- Olympic Gold Medalist Sheila Taormina was in the Copper Country Tuesday sharing her story of success and tips on swimming technique.
A group, including high school swimmers and triathletes, attended a special clinic with Taormina. The lesson focused solely on freestyle swimming, but participants spent more time outside the water practicing arm position.
Taormina says swimming technique isn't an exact science, but many top competitors rely on high-elbow positioning.
"In swimming, technique is everything because you're working in a fluid. You could be the strongest person in the world, but if you don't know how to hold onto a fluid properly, your hand will slip off of it," said Taormina.
Taormina also stressed the importance of core strength, not only in swimming, but in any active lifestyle.
