32-year-old Daniel Hamilton is charged with several felonies including substantial battery and assaulting a police officer
FLORENCE, WI -- An Iron River man facing assault charges has been bound over to circuit court.
Thirty-two-year-old Daniel Hamilton appeared in Florence County District Court Monday morning for his preliminary examination. He is charged with substantial battery, domestic violence, assaulting a police officer, and victim intimidation.
Hamilton allegedly dragged his wife into the woods off of Highway 70 in Florence County April 1.
Witnesses called the police who found a partially clothed woman staggering and screaming for help with Hamilton chasing her.
“He either tried to push me back into the car and I wouldn't go or he just started dragging me into the woods,” said Sarah Hamilton, the alleged victim in the case. “I don’t know exactly how it happened, but my husband was dragging me into the woods.”
The victim said she suffered minor head trauma and a seizure from the incident.
Judge Leon Stenz determined there was enough evidence to prove probable cause which is a much lower threshold than guilty.
Hamilton's bond is set at $30,000 and he will be arraigned in circuit court May 3.
District Attorney Doug Drexler said more charges could be filed against Hamilton.
