LANSING (AP) -- Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has more than just a passing interest in a 5K race set for the state Capitol area.

Sunday's Susan G. Komen Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure will raise money to promote breast cancer awareness and fight the disease.

Snyder's wife, Sue, is a breast cancer survivor.  The governor continued a tradition this year by placing pink ribbons on the downtown building that includes his working office.  That tradition started last year under former Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Snyder issued a statement in support of breast cancer awareness activities and noted early detection is key.
