MARQUETTE -- April 15 is a date infamous for its tax filing deadline, but this year, it will be a little different.
Due to the Emancipation Day celebrated by Washington D.C. some federal offices will be closed on April 15.
Therefore, taxes for the 2010 year now must be sent by midnight of April 18.
"If you're going to file an extension, then it's not an extension of the time to pay," said Jim Heikkinen from U.P. Tax and Accounting. "If you owe the government, you still should pay with your extension."
Local tax professionals say the extended deadline shouldn't make much of a difference for people filing taxes.
If they aren't ready to file by April 15, they probably won't be ready for the 18.
