MARQUETTE -- April is National Sexual Assault Awareness month, and to draw attention to the cause, the Women's Center in Marquette sponsored a special walk.
They called it, "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes."
More than 100 men gathered at NMU to walk just under a mile from the University Center, several blocks down Third Street and back.
But one may ask, what does men walking in women's heels do for sexual assault awareness?
"Because it's a symbolic and literal sense to walking in someone else's shoes as us women know it's really only the tip of the iceberg to being a woman, said Kelly Laakso of the Marquette Women's Center. "But if we have men that are willing to show their support in walking in women's high heeled shoes just to show how difficult that can be in and of itself it's kind of their stand against sexual assault."
Men who participated were rewarded after their walk with foot massages from the NMU Cosmetology Department.
