ISHPEMING -- Volunteers gathered at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming to put together bags to restock food pantries.
Over three dozen volunteers spent an hour and a half placing instructions on bags donated by Jim's Jubilee as part of "Project Ishpeming Food Pantry".
The bags will go out with church members on Wednesday, April 13, to be filled with nonperishable items, then picked up on the following Saturday.
Organizers of the food drive say the need for contributions is still high.
"It's not surprising that in these economic times, there are a number of families who are having a hard time making ends meet, and so the collection of the food is very, very important," said Richard Derby of Wesley United Methodist Church.
All of the items collected will go to the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul in Ishpeming.
