As the deadline for winter utility season nears, the Upper Peninsula Power Company wants to get word out to people who may have fallen behind.

UPPCO suggests that if you are behind on your bill, contact them immediately to make arrangements to avoid having your power shut off.

Early contact means they can work on solutions with customers to help them get caught up.

The electric company says about 3,000 people are significantly behind in their bills and could face getting shut off.

Last year, UPPCO disconnected more than 1,100 customers.

For more, contact UPPCO at 1-800-562-7680.
