Republican representatives were in Iron Mountain Tuesday
IRON MOUNTAIN -- The controversy surrounding a bill in Lansing expected to impact unions continues.
The Local Government and School District Fiscal Accountability Act gives emergency financial managers the ability to cut collective bargaining rights for unions as a last resort.
Republicans say the bill is adjusting the current law that was ineffective and will protect taxpayers.
While in Iron Mountain Tuesday discussing the logging industry, 108th District Representative Ed McBroom and 110th District Representative Matt Huukie weighed in on the issue.
“The new law is giving the tools to municipalities, schools, and the state that will help avoid emergency financial management situations more than bring more into existence,” said McBroom.
“If you feel like you have a fair contract, you have nothing to worry about,” said Huukie. “The key thing is there has to be controls on collective bargaining, especially in the public sector.”
