Say Republicans should be fired if they don't start listening

HOUGHTON -- Dozens of Houghton Democrats united Saturday to protest the actions of Governor Snyder and other Republican representatives.

Teachers, union members and other concerned citizens rallied at the base of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge for more than an hour.  Their signs denounced laws against collective bargaining and tax cuts for the rich.

One speaker reminded the crowd that Snyder, Hukki, Casperson and Benishek work for them, and said they should be fired if they don't start listening.

“We live in a democracy, and this is nothing more than the deterioration of rights,” says USW protester Michael Bellmore.  “It's time that the person and the people of Michigan, stand up, react, and say 'no.'”

The speakers also said this event should help build momentum.

They talked about making their complaints heard by representatives at a town meeting event in Baraga next week.
