HOUGHTON -- Japan has been on many people's minds for nearly a month, but Friday, students and staff at Michigan Tech were also thinking of their stomachs as they helped raise money for the relief effort.

Miso soup, chirashi sushi and nikujaga were on the menu during this week's Khana Khazana meal.  There was enough food for about 300 meals, made with meat and without for vegetarian diners.

Even as the first dishes were filled, the line was long, and everyone seemed as eager to help Japan as they were to try the food.

"If I could send something that'd be good, but it's very hard from here, so raising money is the best thing we can do, I think," said organizer Motoyuki Kidokoro.

Three dollars of each meal sold will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

Kidokoro and others have also organized a run/walk fund-raiser for April 16.
