LAURIUM -- Doctors at Aspirus Keweenaw say their diagnostic scanning abilities have greatly improved with their new hybrid CT scanner.
It not only makes a better diagnosis, it also takes pictures faster...partly because it uses nuclear medicine technology at the same time that it creates detailed computer images.
The machine is similar to equipment in use at Marquette General Hospital for the last few years, but the hospital says it's the most advanced scanner available to patients in the western U.P.
"Patients really appreciate how fast the scan is going, and we've actually seen several people who'd been scanned previously at other institutions, and we found problems here that they didn't see on older equipment," said Nuclear Medicine Manager Gregg Fisher.
The scanner is mainly being used to diagnose heart disease and locate cancerous tumors.
