MARQUETTE -- It's an effort to break the Guinness World Record for the largest skateboard parade, and five students at Northern Michigan University think they can do it.

In order to pull off the feat, the students have organized a skateboard parade starting at the Whitman Hall parking lot at NMU on April 10 at 1 p.m.

To break the record, more than 250 people need to participate.

The students say they've gotten support from the local community as well as from other students at NMU.

"Northern has been a great help in getting all the facilities together and helping promote and all the local people," said organizer Jeremy Johnson.  "We've got 20 different local businesses sponsoring."

If you are interested in joining, just show up.  All you need to bring is a skateboard.

Also, the first 250 people to arrive will receive a free t-shirt.
