The Bonifas Fine Arts Center in Escanaba is holding a circus-themed open house event Saturday as a way to increase community participation in the arts.

According to the organizer, not many people know that the gallery is free to view.

There will be carnival foods like cotton candy and popcorn.  Participants can also view the current exhibit called 'A Balancing Act,' and features old photographs from the Skerbic Circus family.

"I feel that it's very important just because art adds and enriches our lives in so many ways.  I mean, it's been proven to help learning, and like I said, our gallery's always free," said Beth Ann Mercier of the center.

The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
