COOKS -- It's night two of FOX UP Top Choice Fish Fry, and tonight we're taking a trip to the Southern U.P. to the town of Cooks and Sidetracks Bar and Restaurant.
In the 14 years it's been open, Sidetracks has gained a reputation for having an amazing Friday fish fry. Now, on a given Friday night, they serve up 250 all-you-can-eat platters.
Sidetracks' Friday fish fry consists of all-you-can-eat whitefish, fried or broiled, your choice of potato, a lemon and their homemade tartar sauce.
When we asked what the secret is to their fish fry, they said nothing! Their recipe is what the chefs call "good and simple." Fresh, local white fish pieces are dipped in Drakes batter and fried until golden brown. They did say that what seems to be bringing fish lovers in is their personal customer service.
At Sidetracks, no one ever leaves hungry.
"We take care of people; it's all about customers who come, and we want them to leave with a smile on their face. We go above and beyond sometimes to make sure everybody's happy," says Sidetracks owner, Mona Nelson.
