IRON RIVER -- Update: 6:49 p.m. EST

Police are continuing to search for a man suspected of robbing a credit union in Iron River Tuesday morning.

Using a handgun the male suspect robbed the Superior Iron Range Community Federal Credit Union around 10:30 a.m. CST using a handgun.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of money and no one was injured.

Police said the suspect is a white male five foot nine inches tall with a medium build.

They also said he escaped on a green four wheeler.

Residents Tuesday were shocked that this happened and some said they were unaware anything was wrong until after the robbery.

“It was very quiet in town this morning,” said Diana Marcell, who works across the street from the credit union at Saint Vincent De Paul. “So I was very surprised and in this little town of Iron River things do happen. Not very often and I was surprised that I didn't see a thing.

Also West Iron County Schools were locked down for two hours Tuesday after the robbery.

Superintendent Chris Thomson said he told police that a person of interest lived in the vicinity of the school.

According to West Iron County Public Schools, the lockdown was lifted around 2:45 p.m. EST time.

The reason for the lockdown, according to Superintendent Chris Thomson, was that the original suspect lived within the vicinity of the school.
