The annual event gets kids interested in the game of pool
ESCANABA -- It's a game that can be played by all members of the family, but Saturday, the kids got to show of their skills at the 23rd annual Great Lakes Youth Pool Tournament at the Terrace Bay Inn in Escanaba.
Participants were split into four age divisions. They played in an eight ball, double elimination tournament.
Organizers say the objective of the tournament was to get the kids excited about the game early. It's also a great way for young pool players to meet other kids who share their interest.
And most importantly, of course...to have fun!
"It's family oriented; you can do things with your kids," says co-director Don Shope. "Everybody can play, you can play doubles, it's just a family-type sport that you can play from early on until way into your adulthood."
A trophy and a custom cue and case were among the top prizes. But every child was given a prize for participating; no one walked away empty handed.
