LANSING (AP) -- Republicans who control the Michigan Senate are proposing an alternative to Gov. Rick Snyder's tax plan.

The Senate plan would not tax the pensions of those who currently receive them, but pensions that begin at an undetermined future date would be taxed under the plan.

Senate Republicans propose a higher corporate tax rate than that proposed by Snyder, a fellow Republican.  The Senate plan would tax corporations at 6.75 percent compared to 6 percent under Snyder's plan.

A GOP Senate spokeswoman said Friday that talks are ongoing with Snyder's office.  Messages seeking comment were left with a Snyder spokeswoman.

Snyder has said his tax plan is fair and simple.  Many Senate Republicans have said they're opposed to the pension tax as proposed by the governor.
