State Police say the apparent victim was working in the garage at the time

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP -- Update 10:11 a.m. EST, Thursday

The victim of the fatal Sagola fire has been identified as John Robert Dennis, 80, of Sagola Township.

An explosion and fire erupted in the garage area where Dennis was working, according to Michigan State Police.

Update 9:55 p.m. EST, Wednesday

State Police confirm the man working in the garage was killed in the fire.  His name has not been released yet.  The State Police Fire Marshal is enroute to the scene to investigate.

State Police say it appears that a man died in a house fire in Sagola Township Wednesday afternoon.

The victim's name has not been released.

Officials say the man was working in his garage at the time, and that's apparently where the blaze started.  It then spread to the house.

The house is located at 7973 Herzog Road.  The victim's wife called 911 when the fire broke out.

Michigan State Police, Sagola Township Fire Department, and Breitung Township Fire all responded to the blaze.
