ESCANABA -- Seventeen young men from the Red Buck District were honored as new Eagle Scouts in an annual recognition dinner Sunday night.
The dinner was held at the Elks Lodge in Escanaba.
Red Buck District Commissioner Mark Rose said that the scouts had to take part in various leadership courses in order to earn the distinction. They had to earn 21 badges and lead a community service project as well.
New Eagle Scout Brandon Kwak said he was excited to be honored with his friends from the troop.
"It's pretty exciting because you're honored for your commitment and your work to become an Eagle Scout," said Kwak.
There was also a raffle drawing. The guest speaker was the Chief Ranger from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
