Director Jason Allen toured the facilities
MARQUETTE -- Governor Rick Snyder's proposed budget calls for cuts across the board, including funding for our veterans.
The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans was cut a whopping four million dollars. But, the Jacobetti Home in Marquette was spared, a huge relief for Director Brad Slagle.
"Given the state of Michigan and the overall budget, it's not good at all so I was certainly holding my breath to see what they would do to the Jacobetti budget," says Slagle.
Jason Allen, the Michigan Director of Veterans Affairs, toured the Jacobetti Home Thursday, his first time there in this position. He says that, given the financial situation of the state, he's looking to consolidate programs for veterans and save money by increasing efficiency.
"Out of the 18 different departments, we have services in about 10 of them, so we're trying to come up with a better way for soldiers, sailors, Marines, Coast Guard men, Air Force guys, to access programs that are available in the state," says Director Allen.
Director Allen says he was impressed with the Jacobetti Home, which is making improvements. This spring, they'll begin a bathroom and room remodeling project.
