MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The West Branch Community Center has been empty for a while, and a community organization has a plan to open the facility.

Members of the Community Hand-Up group have been presenting their business plan to the Marquette County Board in hopes the county will purchase the building from West Branch Township, who has shown little interest in the plan to reopen.

Hand-Up representatives are confident the county will see the benefits of such a business to the surrounding community.

"The commission is looking at this thoroughly and wants to know what is, what this option is before they rule it out, if it's a good option, and they feel that our plan is viable.  Then I believe that they'll more forward with it," said President of Hand-Up, Lisa Johnson.

The board has shown interest in the project and stated they would like more information.

But some members have made their opinion clear, that it may be unwise to spend funds on the building with such an uncertain budget looming.
