MOHAWK -- New Orleans soul came to the Keweenaw Tuesday night as people put on their beads and helped raise money for three separate causes.
Local musicians got the crowd into a party mood as they enjoyed a variety of Cajun cuisine donated by Keweenaw restaurants. Face painting and a cotton candy booth added to the carnival atmosphere.
There was art work for sale and a lot of information about Keweenaw Krayons, the group that hosted the event.
"We've offered a lot of different classes in the past," said Elise Matz of Keweenaw Krayons. "We've done amazing things, like guerilla gardening, where the teens snuck into gardens at night and transformed them."
The money raised will help support Keweenaw Krayons, The Horizons Alternative School, and Lyanne Stemler's cancer awareness efforts.
