MARQUETTE -- It took more than 100 pounds of butter and 24 hours of preparations, but the Huron Mountain Bakery had about 14,000 paczkis ready to go when they opened their doors Tuesday morning.

Employees say business is good.  Today they estimate they'll get about 500 percent more business than a usual day.

The treats are smaller than the bakery's normal donuts but contain three times more filling and more than 1,000 calories.

"Everybody wants it, so I don't think the calories really matter," says Rachel Freeman of the bakery's production team.  "We only make the paczkis one day of the year, so we had a lot of orders coming in the past week.  A lot of people have been pretty happy to see them this morning."

An early Easter has a significant impact on their paczki sales.

That's because the season of Lent also comes earlier in the year, and sales are down almost 50 percent because people are still on New Year's diets.  With this year's Lenten season so late, the bakery expects sales to boom.
