Some of the money for improvements came from federal stimulus money
SAWYER -- The new airfield, taxiway lighting system at Sawyer International Airport was completed under budget.
In 2009, Sawyer International was selected to receive $1.9 million in federal stimulus funds for airport improvements.
Phase One of the program was completed in June of last year and came in under budget by approximately $10,000.
Improvements completed during Phase Two included the addition of energy efficient LED lighting, lighting cans for each taxiway light, a backup emergency generator for the rotating beacon, and demolition of the old airfield lighting vault.
Funding for both phases amounted to nearly $3.2 million in federal, state, and local funding.
