More than $1,500 of alleged stolen property recovered

NEGAUNEE -- A young couple was honored by the Michigan State Police Friday with a very rare award.

Eighteen-year-old Katie and 19-year-old Klint Miller received 'Distinguished Citizen' awards for their work in apprehending two shoplifting suspects.

They reportedly noticed two suspects allegedly shoplifting at Westwood Mall.  Katie then went to a nearby store to call and alert authorities to the situation while Klint detained the pair until the police arrived.

"I just got in front of the door and started asking them several questions," says Klint Miller.  "Finally, I distracted them enough to where they wanted to turn around and go back in to the mall."

"I think we just took it upon ourselves just to try and help out because we felt like we owed it them, our community," says Katie Miller.

Police recovered more than $1,500 in stolen property, as well as illegal drugs, from the suspects.
