There was a lecture and real-life scenario portion

ESCANABA -- International terrorism gets a lot of publicity, but local law enforcement is working with area school staff to stay alert for local terrorist threats as well.

Faculty members from four Delta County schools met at Escanaba Middle School today for an active shooter training.

The three-hour course was made up of a presentation and a real-life training scenario.

Bob Berbohm is the Delta County Management Coordinator, and he was joined by local law enforcement officials.

The training showed teachers how to stay calm under high stress.

“True experts are the teachers, the administrators,” said Berbohm.  “They’re here every day.  They deal with the children every day.  They know what's going on.  Now we take the experts that respond to emergency situations--law enforcement--we bring them together with teachers to create a better plan.”

All Delta County schools will have received this training by the end of the year.
