Suspect crashes into Copper Country Mental Health lobby

HOUGHTON -- A 34-year-old Calumet man is in the Houghton County jail after fleeing a traffic stop and crashing his vehicle into the lobby of the Copper Country Mental Health facility.

Houghton Police began chasing the suspect just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.  They had been told to watch for a man driving a maroon, 1995 Dodge Caravan who had been involved in an earlier home invasion in the Calumet area.

While the officers pursued the vehicle, the driver attempted to hit them several times.

Hancock Police and Michigan Tech Public Safety assisted with the incident.

The suspect's name has not been released.
