ONTONAGON -- The names of two people charged with animal cruelty in Ontonagon County have been released.

On Tuesday, 63-year-old James Griffin and 30-year-old Crystal Benoist appeared in Ontonagon County District Court.  They waived their arraignment.

A preliminary hearing has been set for the pair on March 9.

They were charged in February for cruelty to 10 or more animals involving several chihuahuas, a rabbit and a cat.  The animals are in protective custody according to Ontonagon County Animal Protection.
