SPREAD EAGLE, WI -- After nearly five years of sending care packages to troops across the world, the Palmisano Care Package Project has reached a new milestone.

The organization has reached non-profit status making it easier for companies and businesses to donate.

Herb and Bobbie Samme send care packages to troops in honor of their son, Lance Corporal Eric Palmisano, who was killed while serving in Iraq in April 2006.

With the help of volunteers, the group packed 43 boxes Tuesday night to send overseas.

“All we've ever really wanted this to be was a legacy to our son,” said Bobbie.  “Like Herb always says, we've taken this tragedy and we've turned it into a triumph, and to take it to this level means more to us than I can express in words.”

So far nearly 1300 care packages have been sent to the troops and more donations are needed.
